Yesterday, BMW unveiled the all-new 4 Series coupe and suddenly, the number of times the word 'grille' has ever been used in human history doubled instantly.
After tens of camouflaged photos that hinted at something big hiding on the new model's nose, snapped shots of naked prototypes, and, finally, leaked brochure pages the day ahead of its release, the polarizing design of the new 4 Series coupe became official.

BMWs are known for a lot of things and most of them revolve around the vehicles' dynamism, but if there's one thing we've learned about the Bavarian models in the past it's to never judge them based only on photographs. These cars have a way of making a much-improved impression when met in person, and the new 4 Series could very well pull a similar trick.

But if that isn't enough to soften your stance on its design, then maybe time will. Much like the Tesla Cybertruck and the slow acceptance of its weird appearance, one day spent with the myriad of 2021 BMW 4 Series photos has proved enough to warm us to this new bloated kidney grille. Maybe time does heal anything, even those sore eyes some people got from too much rubbing in disbelief.

Besides, there's a lot more to the new mode than just its looks, even though that stole all the headlines. For one, all diesel models get mild-hybrid technology, which says something about the direction the industry is going. But more importantly, it's also the still top of the line 440i xDrive that gets it, which poses a question: will the M4 receive the same treatment?

It's all down to benefits versus penalties. The electric motor will help with fuel economy and emissions on the regular models, but with the M version, it's all about power. If the boost is worth it as opposed to the added weight, then we see no reason why BMW would hold back. Sure, adding all-wheel-drive and electric motors to its M models in just a few short years could be seen as risky, but that's just the speed at which the market is moving these days.

As for the exterior of this new M4 imagined by X-Tomi Design, there's not much to talk about. The 440i xDrive with the M Package looks pretty much identical except for the wheels and the color. It's not a bad attire, but we'd be very surprised and disappointed if BMW didn't up the ante a little in terms of drama for a vehicle that'll battle with Audi's RS5 and Mercedes-AMG's C63 Coupe.

X-Tomi also included a convertible version of the new bimmer which is as straight-forward as it sounds: a coupe without a roof.
