The new 3 Series is already out, complete with a sports version to rival the AMG C43 and Audi S4, and BMW will soon follow it up with the 2-door versions. This is the first time we've seen the fresh 4 Series as a Coupe with an M Performance configuration.
Despite relatively heavy camo, we can make out the features of what should be the M440i, or perhaps the European M340d. The prototype sports trademark wheels, behind which sit M Sport brakes with 13.7-inch front discs with four-pot calipers and 13.6-inch ones with single-piston floating calipers on the rear.
This is a sports coupe we can get behind. The M440i packs the twin-scroll 3-liter turbo engine with 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, available with AWD. Sure, you'll have all-paw traction in the M4 too, but do you need to do the 0 to 60mph sprint faster than 4.2 seconds. It's basically Toyota Supra performance with more traction and a luxury interior with all the bells.
If it's anything like the sedan, the 4er Coupe will feature a longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor, a subtle weight reduction and near 50/50 weight split. We're also pleased with how the design is shaping up. You don't have that controversial notch in the LED headlights, and the overall silhouette is as clean as the 8 Series.
We expect the 4 Series coupe and convertible to be revealed next year as 2021 models. Besides the meaty M versions, you'll also have vanilla models like the 430i, 420d, 430d and even a hybrid here and there. Expect prices to start from around $56,000 for this M440i model, which is significantly more than the outgoing 440i that never got the M attachments. Of course, we can't forget that the i4 is technically a member of the 4 Series family, being based around the Gran Coupe 4-door.
