At the Frankfurt Motor Show this week Land Rover unleashed what is probably its most exciting new model in ages: the 2020 Defender. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, Land Rover is now throwing all its might behind the new off-roader, hoping it will become an icon just as its forefather. And that includes enlisting the help of third parties to promote the car.
As the crowds flock to the Land Rover stand to have a look at the new car, the Brits announced a partnership with LEGO that will see a toy-sized Defender hit the shelves in the first day of October.

Part of the Technic series, the toy requires 2,573 pieces to be assembled, some of them moving parts.
The finished LEGO Defender measures 8 inches tall, 16 inches long and 7 inches wide, and comes complete with “realistic functions.”

More precisely, the rims are dressed in “ground-gripping tires,” the doors can be opened, and the rear seats can be folded forward.

Most importantly, the toy Defender is equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder engine with moving pistons,, independent suspension on both axles, and a working winch. There's even the most sophisticated 4-speed sequential gearbox ever made in the series, with 2 levers for engaging high or low gear ratios and a selector for changing gear.

There are even a removable roof rack with storage box, pannier, ladder and traction mats.

“With every LEGO element, children can build anything they can imagine. I’m very excited about this new model – a truly impressive job done by our LEGO Group designers,” said in a statement Niels Henrik Horsted, managing director at LEGO.

“Together with Land Rover, we’ve blended elements, design and innovative engineering into a set that shows the boundless creativity of LEGO play, and that with LEGO Technic you can build for real.”

The price of the LEGO Technic 2020 Defender is $199.99
