As far as the F-150 is concerned, many service technicians prefer the Coyote V8 over the EcoBoost V6 for its more straightforward design and superior reliability. The free-breathing engine also happens to be perfect for bolt-ons and E85 fuel, which is exactly what hides under the hood of the single-cabbed truck in the following video.
A 2020 model year XL with RWD and the 10-speed automatic transmission, the F-150 owned by Javier Gonzalez is also gifted with the intake manifold from a Mustang GT, a cold-air intake, and no catalytic converters whatsoever. The five-spoke wheels and drag radials out back also need to be mentioned, along with air suspension and “a bunch of weight reduction.”

Filmed at the Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida by Drag Racing and Car Stuff, the Agate Black-painted truck is capable of 114 to 115 miles per hour (183 to 185 kilometers per hour) on the quarter-mile with the current setup. The best time posted so far is 11.9 seconds, which is more than impressive for a light-duty pickup with a naturally-aspirated powerplant.

Speaking of which, the port- and direct-injected Coyote V8 for the 2020 model year churns out 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet (542 Nm) of torque. The 5.0-liter engine can also run 87-octane fuel, but Ford recommends 91 or higher octane for the best overall performance.

Redesigned from the ground up for the 2021 model year, the F-150 XL with the Regular Cab starts at $28,940 excluding destination charge. The eight-cylinder option costs $1,995 more than the entry-level V6, and yes, the smaller of the two EcoBoost powerplants is available as well for an extra $1,195.

Even though it's a working man's truck, the XL is pretty well equipped for its price point. An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment opens the list of standard equipment, which includes Dynamic Hitch Assist for the rearview camera, Trailer Sway Control, and four tie-down hooks. Automatic high beams, manual A/C, and automatic emergency braking also need to be mentioned.
