The highly anticipated performance version of the Alpine A110, the A110S, is just a few weeks away from the official market launch. As it gears up for sales start, the French company announced on Friday (August 9) the starting price for the car.
Given that performance does not come cheap, we were expecting a price to match. The figure announced by Alpine for the British market is £56,810, making the model the most expensive in the three-model lineup of the manufacturer.
By going for the many options on the table, the price is, however, likely to be much higher. The carbon roof panel, for instance, costs an extra £2,208 (but shaves 1.6 kg from the weight of the car), and there are also £1,656 carbon-fiber bucket seats, among others.
Based on the A110, the S version does offer a bit more extra features, as well as a considerable increase in power.
The car is powered by the same turbocharged 1.8-liter engine as the base car, only in its case, there are 50 more horsepower on tap, or a total of 292 hp. Torque is rated at 320 Nm.
Changes have been made to the car’s suspension as well. The A110S rides 4 mm lower than its sibling and has been fitted with new springs and hollow anti-roll bars that are twice as stiff as before.
The A110S moves on specifically tuned and wider Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires beneath which the carmaker fitted 320 mm bi-material brake discs and Brembo calipers.
The electronic stability control system has been tuned as well to cope with the increase in power, providing “greater handling accuracy and improved grip.” An active sport exhaust is also fitted.
The order books for the new car are scheduled to open in September. For the moment, the configurator for this model is up and running only for the British market.
