Vauxhall, the sister brand of Opel and the British division of General Motors, has priced the facelifted Zafira from a very affordable £18,615. Considering how much car you get for your pounds sterling, the redesigned Zafira is good value.
Largely based on the previous-generation Astra J, the 2017 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer adopts styling cues from the Astra K. So to speak, it’s looking good for an MPV designed to do the school run and other family-related whatnots.
“The front design of the new Zafira Tourer takes the major characteristics of the award-winning new Astra, and anchors it in Vauxhall’s new portfolio,” tells Mark Adams, VP of Opel/Vauxhall Design. “Its sharp, precise double-winged daytime running lights convey a new level of sophistication, which is also reflected in the interior by a completely redesigned instrument panel."
Six trim levels are available for the model year 2017: Design, Energy, Sri, Sri Nav, Se, Elite, and Elite Nav. Depending on the trim level, Zafira customers can deck their cars out with goodies such as LED Adaptive Forward Lighting headlamps, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, the lot.
Safety features also abound in the redesigned Zafira. The OnStar suite of services, for example, comes as standard with what Vauxhall calls Automatic Crash Response. Suppose an accident or a crash occurs. The moment an airbag deploys, Automatic Crash Response opens a line to an advisor, who’ll talk to you and, if needed, report your location to the emergency services.
On the mechanical front, the 2017 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is available with a selection of turbocharged petrol and turbo diesel engines. The entry-level 1.6 CDTi is good for 132 bhp, while the bigger 2.0 CDTi churns out 168 bhp. For those who rather high-octane jungle juice, a 1.4-liter four-banger with 138 bhp will have to suffice. Only the 1.4 turbo and the 2.0-liter oil-chugging engine can be equipped with an automatic transmission.
