Skoda has previously announced that the veils will be taken off the Kodiaq on September 1, before the seven-seat SUV will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show. But as expected, the Czech automaker couldn’t wait until September 1 to showcase it.
The first official photographs of the most heavily-awaited Skoda in recent memory feature the interior design. Our first glimpse of the cabin suggests that the Kodiaq will be adorned with the best the automaker has to offer in this department. The symmetry of the dashboard, the four large air vents, the masterfully integrated touchscreen infotainment system, everything is nice.

According to the manufacturer, the soon-to-debut Kodiaq also happens to take delight in “above-average space.” To be honest, that’s just stating the obvious from Skoda’s part. Standing at 4.70 meters (185 inches) long and 1.88 meters (74 inches) wide, the all-new Kodiaq will be available with seven seats (read “optional extra”).

With the third row of seats folded flat into the floor, the Kodiaq takes the title of largest trunk in its segment thanks to 720 liters (25.4 cubic feet) of cargo capacity. With the second row folded down as well, the trunk can swallow up 2,065 liters (72.9 cubic feet). So, anything else?

Why yes. The options list will contain a heated steering wheel, which comes in handy during those long winters in Europe. Skoda has yet to say anything remotely official about the powertrain, but we know better. The cream of the crop will be a turbo diesel unit. More to the point, the 2.0 TDI with 190 PS (188 horsepower). If we’re lucky, the 2.0 BiTDI with 240 PS (237 horsepower) will be added a bit later on if the bean counters can make a case for it.

On the high-octane powered front, the 2.0 TSI with 280 PS (276 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) will be the engine to have. Being underpinned by the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, the all-new Skoda Kodiaq is due to gain a plug-in hybrid model in the future. The Skoda Kodiaq PHEV is expected to combine the goodies of a 1.4 TSI and an electric motor.
