Remember the Tesla Model X that was towing a trailer and was spotted earlier this month? Well, the crossover has now lost the trailer. It also appears the production-ready prototype has lost all form of camouflage, as seen in this pair of recent images.
The EV was spotted in California, with the vehicle now being in its final testing phase - the photos showed up on Reddit. We are very close to the electric crossover’s arrival, as stated in Elon Musk’s recent letter to the shareholders. While the CEO mentioned September, this sighting, together with many others we've enjoyed in the recent past, mean the reveal is as good as here.
As with the Model S, we’ll get more than one flavor of the Model X. In fact, Tesla might take the crossover even further. The document mentions Tesla Motors aims to produce over 12,000 cars for what is left of the year, including a “small number of Model X derivatives.”
The production number can be seen as a year-to-year increase of 60 percent and is part of a greater Tesla plan to increase sales. The Silicon Valley company aims to boost its sales ten times by 2020, having set itself a goal of half a million cars per year.
The pricing for the Model X hasn’t been announced yet, but this is a bit of a difficult subject for Tesla. The latest report sees the company losing $4,000 for every Model S sold. Then again, the Model X is just one of the steps Tesla is making to overcome such difficulties, which are impossible to escape in the early stages of market presence.
Still, Tesla has been accepting reservations for the Model S since April, with over 13,000 customers having signed in so far. The standard version of the Model X requires a $5,000 deposit, so there’s no doubt about the clientele’s buying intentions.
So if you’re reading this and considering getting a Model X yourself, you’ll probably be able to use it for that long-planned green commute starting from next year.
The Model X will lure its customers with a panoramic windshield, as well as with Falcon Wing rear doors that open upwards. As for the moment when you want to get off the road, the Model X offers two independent electric motors. Therefore you’ll be able to rely on its all-wheel-drive abilities, but it remains to be seen how well the vehicle can tackle rugged terrain.

What we know so far about the Tesla Model X
Speaking of which, the Model X is rumored to arrive with a 90 kWh battery pack, which would offer it a range of 230 miles (370 km).
