2016 Nissan Titan XD 5.6 V8 Price Announced, 2017 Nissan Titan Unveiled in NY

This year’s edition of the New York Auto Show saw Nissan announce the price for the gasoline-fed Titan XD. The Big Apple is also the place where the 2017 Nissan Titan half-ton made its debut.

Compared to the half-ton Titan, the Titan XD is longer, wider, and more capable. Even though it is built on a heavy-duty frame, the Titan XD has the fuel efficiency of a half-ton truck thanks to its 5.0-liter Cummins diesel engine. The thing is, the Titan XD with the oil-chugging engine is $40,290 at the very least. For those people who prefer the 5.6-liter Endurance V8 over the Cummins diesel, that one starts at $35,290 in Titan XD S Crew Cab 4x2 form.

It’s five grand cheaper, alright, but it doesn’t feel five grand cheaper. For example, the engine boasts variable valve event and lift and direct injection, among other goodies. With 390 horsepower and 401 lb-ft (543 Nm) at your disposal, the gasoline-fed Nissan Titan XD is far from being underpowered. 4x4 adds $3,000 to the price and all models, be they rear- or four-wheel-drive, come as standard with a newly developed 7-speed automatic transmission.

What about the 2017 Nissan Titan? The newcomer to the Titan family is not as capable as its XD-branded sibling at towing and hauling, though it is a promising addition to the half-ton genre. At launch, the Titan will be offered in Crew Cab form only. Single Cab and King Cab configuration will follow later in the 2017 model year. The regular version of the Nissan Titan can be had with three bed lengths, as follows: 5.5, 6.5 or 8 feet (1.67, 1.82, or 2.43 meters). The 5.6-liter Endurance V8 is standard, as is a 7-speed auto.

Just like the Titan XD, the half-ton Titan will be made available in five trim levels: S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve. Capabilities and pricing will be made official closer to its on-sale date this summer.

"Titan shares its aggressive style with the Titan XD, but the two vehicles are completely different underneath the skin," commented Fred Diaz, an official at Nissan North America. "Titan will compete in the heart of the full-size pickup segment - the half-ton - while the Titan XD provides a unique solution for customers by bridging the cost and capability gap between traditional half-ton and full heavy-duty pickups."
