First there was a design sketch, then a couple of photos of the Korean-spec Sportage and now we can finally show you some official pictures of the fourth-gen Kia Sportage.
The pictures surfaced on the Internet courtesy of The Korean Car Blog, and from what we can tell, they look like snapped from Kia's upcoming press release about the compact crossover.

In any case, what you see here is the Korean-spec 2016 Kia Sportage which will be unveiled in a couple of days. We can't tell you very much about the Euro-spec Sportage, but the model is bound to make a debut on the Old Continent during at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled to open its gates in September.

The looks

However, the car's design is developed in Europe, and this explains to some extent the boldness and the modern styling that incorporates hints of Germanic body lines here and there. Also, the car's front end has the potential to generate some mixed feelings, but we'll let you form an opinion after browsing the photo gallery.

From what we've seen in previous spyshots, once you step in the cabin the new Sportage will meet you with the same steering wheel present on the new Optima while the dashboard will remind you of the Sorento, especially if you pay close attention to the air vents.

Under the hood

Although Kia said the new Sportage will receive a new engine, details about it have failed to emerge so far from the brand's official PR channel.

We think they are talking about a 1.6-liter GDI petrol, that will come as part of a team that also comprises a 1.2-liter T-GDI, 1.7 CRDi and a 2.0-liter CRDi mill. If we're not mistaken, these units should be exploited by a six-speed manual, six-speed auto and seven-speed dual clutch transmission, according to customer preferences.
