Prior to the crossover's official debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show edition, Kia released three design sketches that partially reveal what we should expect from the 2016 Sportage in terms of interior and exterior styling.
We won't insist too much on describing the pictures because it's pretty clear the production model won't feature the big wheels and beefy shapes.
However, Kia will make the Sportage as attractive as possible, judging by how the SPORTSPACE presented itself earlier this year in Geneva.
In any case, you'll be able to spot the signature "tiger nose" grille and those ice-cube LED daytime running lights from a distance, but we'd rather focus on what we know so far about the 2016 Sportage.
Spyshots have been coming in and going at a constant rate, and the latest sightings of Sportage test mules suggest the Koreans are aiming for a premium atmosphere inside the cabin.
The Land Rover-ish controls for the A/C system seem to indicate this, but the rest of the interior will sport a familiar view, especially for those used to the Cee'd hatchback. The dashboard appears to have inherited design cues from the Sorento, including the air vents.
Also, all you need to push or turn on the car's dashboard is grouped on the center console, below the 8-inch Infinity infotainment system.
This will most likely be the entry-level configuration, but some voices say Kia wants to insert a downsized 1.2-liter GDI mill with around 130 horsepower, yet Kia has no official take on this rumor.
As far as the diesel compartment is concerned, we should expect a 1.7-liter mill coupled with a seven-speed DCT gearbox and a 2.0-liter CRDi.
