With over 100,000 examples built in the 2015 model year at the Kansas City Assembly Plant, the Ford Transit family of models is America’s best-selling van right now. To ensure that status will be preserved, the Blue Oval spruced things up for the 2016 Ford Transit with small but effective additions.
The highlight is the introduction of the all-new Ford SYNC 3 infotainment system. Compared to the outgoing SYNC 2, the third generation of the multimedia system boasts more of everything. Faster menu browsing, more capable voice recognition, a smartphone-like main menu and easier-to-understand graphical interface are the name of the game.

All 2016 Ford Transit vans and wagons (including Transit Connect and Connect Wagon) include a backup camera for easier parking and trailer hitch assist tech as standard. The latter gizmo automatically engages when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, displaying a graphical overlay on the screen that helps drivers to line up a hitch with the trailer.

While the 2016 Ford Transit cutaway and chassis cab will get a rearview parking display in the rearview mirror, the medium and high-roof Transit is now available with dual sliding side cargo doors. With this addition, the 2016 MY benefits from 58 vehicle configurations. Four paint colors have been introduced the 2016 model year Ford Transit, namely Shadow Black, Caribou, Magnetic and Race Red.

The online configurator fires up on August 11th, with the 2016 Transit vans and wagons to arrive at US dealers in September. In the 2016 Ford Transit Connect’s case, its main addition for the new model year is a standard flexible-fuel system for the 2.5-liter engine. This feature is said to be “destined for non-California emissions states,” giving them the ability yo use unleaded gasoline or E85 juice.

Last but not least, the 2016 Ford Transit Connect Wagon features standard second-row fold-flat bucket seats if you go for the Titanium trim level. Bucket seats are available for free on the XLT long-wheelbase model, while a 6-way power driver’s seat is available in cloth for the XLT. BLIS with cross-traffic alert and 17-inch premium alloy wheels, as well as power-adjustable heated mirrors are optional extras.
