2016 Chevrolet Camaro As Imagined by Automobile Magazine

Other than the recent facelift and various high-performance variants, the current Chevrolet Camaro hasn’t changed all that much since its introduction four years ago. With an all-new Chevy Camaro set to hit the scene for 2016, Automobile Magazine pieced together some recent rumors and dreamt up an amazing design for the sixth-generation Camaro.
According to the report, the 2016 Camaro is expected to borrow some of its styling from the second-gen (shown above), which was available from 1970 until 1981 and included the early split bumper design that this rendering is modeled after. The illustration features many traits from that era of Camaro such as the prominent, upright grille, the sharply creased fenders and wide rear haunches that arch down toward the rear of the body.

More interesting is the window design. From 1970 through 2002, the Camaro did not have side quarter windows, and neither does this illustration. Most of this design looks like something that would look great on a production car with the exception of the oddly shaped, blacked-out A-pillars and the out-of-place side air intake vents.

What is known about the next-gen Camaro is that it will ditch the Australian-based Zeta platform in favor of the Alpha platform, but rather than share its wheelbase with the Cadillac ATS, the article stays that it will ride on a 114.6-inch wheelbase shared with the Cadillac CTS. If this is true, the new Camaro would still be shorter than the Challenger, but its wheelbase would be 2.3-inches longer than the current Camaro and 7.5-inches longer than the new Ford Mustang thus leaving the door open for a smaller, rear-drive coupe possibly inspired by the 2012 Code 130R Concept.

Sharing more than just a platform with the CTS, Automobile Magazine says the upcoming Camaro will offer the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder currently found in the ATS and CTS, which is tuned to produce 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Although nothing has been finalized (and there aren’t even any spy shots), these speculations for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro sure sound promising. Head on over to the Automobile website to read more about the next-gen Camaro and to see the stylish rendering for yourself.
