A new generation of the VW Phaeton is already on the table, as the vehicle could come to the market starting from 2015, despite the poor sales. According to Motor Trend, VW will keep the vehicle’s non-conventional positioning on the market - the Phaeton is the most understated luxury vehicle a customer can buy.
“The new one will have the same positioning: a straightforward sedan for the person who's successful but doesn't feel the need to show it. Volkswagen doesn't change course between generations of a car. It's always easier to keep the customers you have than to lose them and go find new ones," a VW insider told the aforementioned source.
However, the new Phaeton will rely on special materials such as magnesium and aluminum to seriously bring the weight down. In fact the vehicle will be orientated towards efficiency as it will use technologies like downsizing and might also come with a plug-in version.
