The end of November does not bring the best of news for the customers who bought 2015 model year Victory motorcycles. Polaris, under whose umbrella Victory Motorcycles is, has sent the National Highway Traffic Administration the recall notice with the internal code V-14-03 A/B. The NHTSA recall campaign has number 14V596000. Luckily, only 122 motorcycles are affected by this problem, as Victory identified the units in production and prevented the remaining ones from being shipped to customers.
According to Polaris, the shift ratchet assembly in the affected bikes’ transmission may have been incorrectly assembled with an improperly positioned detent arm spring. This might cause the bikes’ shifter to unexpectedly change gears or drop out of gear. Needless to say that if such a thing happens the vehicle operator might lose control of the bike, increasing the risk of a crash.

All the bikes have been identified

Polaris says that only 4 cases of a warranty claim have been filed with Victory Motorcycles dealers. The manufacturer started to inspect all the bikes which may have been assembled incorrectly and identified all the faulty units. Once the VINs have been identified, production and shipping were stopped and the customers have been notified about the problem.

The affected motorcycles belong to the following 2015 model year series: Cross Country, Cross Country Eightball, Cross Country Tour, Gunner, Hammer Eightball, High-Ball, Magnum, Vision Tour ABS and Vegas Eightball. These bikes have been manufactured August 11, 2014, to September 2, 2014.

All the machines affected by this recall will be inspected by Victory Motorcycles dealers and corrected as necessary. The operation is free of charge and is expected to be carried out in less than two hours per bike. No crashes or injuries have been so far reported.

Victory Motorcycles reminds customers who no longer own their motorcycles that the federal law requires that they inform the new owners of the bike and hand them a copy of the recall notice they received. For more information, customers can reach the Victory Consumer Service Department by calling 1-877-737-7172.
