Nothing official, but last year, Toyota and Mazda talked about a plan to work on and share the Mazda2 sub-compact, something similar with the GT 86/BRZ/FR-S joint project.
Latest reports show that the project is still standing and North America will probably benefit from the rebadged Mazda2 sold as a Toyota Yaris. However, the version will not have the Mazda SkyActive engine technology and will be offered only as a sedan, the hatchback version following to be imported from Japan. Details are foggy for now, so stay tuned for more.

Mazda’s plant in Salamanca, Mexico, will start production in 2014 and word has it that the company will boost production capacity from 140,000 units to 230,000 by March 2016, which seems a realistic number judging that it will have to make the extra units for Toyota.
