It's a pretty well-known fact that marketing is probably the most important detail in selling a product these days, be it a hair conditioner or a heavy-duty pickup truck. In the latter's case, the "best-in-class" label is the Holy Grail for the marketing team, and this is why Ram announced it will squeeze an extra 15 pound-feet from the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel powering the 2015 Ram 3500 HD pickup.
Not that long ago, Chrysler's pickup truck brand released the SAE J2807 towing capacities for its 2015 model year lineup. With the previously mentioned turbo diesel, the 2500 and 3500 got the coveted "best-in-class" label thanks to their 17,970 and 30,000-pound max towing ratings. In addition to towing capacity, Ram boasts with best-in-class payload capacity and power.

Thanks to a little bit of calibration to the 6.7-liter Cummins inline six-cylinder engine, of which we highlight a turbo mod and more aggressive fuel delivery, the 2015 Ram 3500 HD is now the leader of its segment thanks to a max payload of 7,390 pounds, a 70-pound hike compared to last year's 3500 HD. In addition to that, the Ram brand's most capable truck further boasts with a gross combined weight rating of 37,900 pounds and a 5-year/100k-mile powertrain warranty.

These figures infuriated the Blue Oval, waging a legal war against the Ram Truck brand. But Ram won the battle because Ford's F-450 Super Duty is a Class 4 pickup truck, not a Class 3 like the Ram 3500 HD. The manufacturer announced that the 2015 Ram HD pickup trucks will begin production this week, at the Saltillo Assembly plant in Coahuila, Mexico.

If you're in the market for a light-duty truck, then you might want to consider the Ram 1500 into your shortlist as well. For the 2015 model year, the gasoline-fed Ram 1500 HFE returns 25 mpg highway, while the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was rated a best-in-class 28 mpg when driving on the highway.
