2015 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe Tested: A Fetish You’ll Be Proud of

After taking the more docile Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible out for a spin last summer, we thought it was time to see how the Coupe would fare in one of our tests, so we picked up a 2015 F-Type R Coupe model to feed our needs for gratuitous V8 rumbles. And what a peach it turned out to be!

We already had huge expectations of it and, on most counts, the car managed to deliver. We’re not referring only to the exterior design here but the overall experience, as a whole.

On the outside, the F-Type looks absolutely stunning. This applies no matter if we’re talking about the V6 or R models and in both the case of the Convertible and the Coupe guises. It’s simply the best looking Jaguar made since the iconic E-Type came out.

Forty years from now we’ll be looking back and the E-Type will still be a classic while the F-Type will probably be joining it in the pages of history as one of the best creations carmakers ever put in production.

Under the beautiful exterior lies a new chassis that was explicitly developed to be as sporty and light as possible. You can feel it around town, you can feel it on the highway and you can definitely feel it when you’re pushing the car to the limit. It's stiff and uncompromising, sending vibrations through the comfortable seats all the way to your spine at every moment.

Up front, there’s the immensely popular 5-liter supercharged V8 making a hell of a ruckus. This is also the main reason why you can kiss the EPA fuel consumption estimates goodbye. It’s not that they’re not accurate, they probably got those numbers fair and square, but you won’t be able to keep your foot off the throttle!

During our time with the car, we noticed that we were revving it excessively just for the fun of it because those four tailpipes at the back are the human equivalent of Cerberus’ barking. And the sound they make is absolutely addictive.

Maybe the F-Type isn’t as sharp to drive as the Porsche 911 at which it aims but it’s a lot cheaper and provides more than enough thrills for the average driver. Get the F-Type R Coupe model and you might be in over your head when it comes to taming it. You’ve been warned!
