Like just about every other vehicle segment, pickup trucks have grown to epic proportions, and General Motors is counting on its new mid-size trucks to appeal to size-conscious vehicle buyers. After all, not everyone needs the payload or towing capacity of a full-size truck, so why should they have to live with the added size.
To solve this problem, the 2015 GMC Canyon (and 2015 Chevrolet Colorado) will arrive this fall to give buyers another small and efficient alternative to other super-sized including GM’s own GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. Compared to these trucks, the Canyon and Colorado Crew Cab models are almost 17 inches shorter than their full-size counterparts with an overall length of 212.7 inches, and about seven inches narrower measuring 74.3 inches wide. This will help make the trucks easier to maneuver and more efficient.

We know customers have varied needs for a pickup in this segment, using their vehicle to commute to work during the week, transport children to school and other activities. But on the weekend, they have a very different set of needs that match their active lifestyles. The 2015 Canyon delivers on all these needs. With its smaller size and associated nimble nature, Canyon provides pickup capability and exceptional comfort in an efficient and more manageable package,” said Anita Burke, vehicle chief engineer for the Canyon.

While retaining its smaller-than-Sierra dimensions, the Canyon and Colorado grow a little compared to their predecessors, which measured in at 207.1 inches long and 67.6 inches wide. The bigger size should improve passenger comfort and safety compared to today’s cramped compact pickups; GM has already announced the innovative new rear seat feature to better accommodate a forward-facing child seat.

Compared to the current small-truck offerings like the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier, the 2015 Canyon and Colorado bring more modern offerings to a segment that has gotten stagnant in recent years.
