When it comes to people carriers, identifying their job description is rather easy: take a number of X passengers from A to B in both safe and comfortable conditions.

So, what makes the S-Max and the Galaxy one of the safest cars out there? First of all, they offer second-row seat side airbags for additional passenger side-impact protection. But it's never enough when it comes to boosting safety, so Ford also found a way of fitting the two models with first and second row seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters.
Moreover, both models are built around "ultra-high strength hydro-formed steel in the A-pillars, B-pillars and roof rails", again, for keeping the passengers protected inside a safety cell during a crash.
According to Euro NCAP results, the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact test, with all the vital areas of the crash test dummy being well protected. Readings showed adequate chest protection while maximum points were awarded for the Ford S-Max and Galaxy in the side barrier impact and the side pole test, the most feared by carmakers.
“As Euro NCAP’s 5-star standards climb higher, Ford vehicles continue to reach the organisation’s stringent expectations for crash protection,” explained Roelant de Waard, Ford of Europe. “Both our all-new S-MAX and Galaxy deliver sophisticated safety features including our new Pre-Collision Assist technology to provide exceptional protection for drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike.”
