When Citroen introduced the DS5 back in 2011, the compact executive car was made by Citroen. By the time the facelifted model came out, the French automaker green-lit the DS brand, the reason why the 2015 DS 5 doesn’t have any Citroen logos on it.
Slated to go on sale on July 1st, the DS 5 is the range-topping product of DS Automobiles in Europe. Combining avant-garde aesthetics and interesting powertrain options, the symbol of the DS Automobiles brand boasts a new front fascia design, EU 6-compliant engines and some new features too.
The entry-level DS 5 BlueHDi 120 S&S Elegance with the 6-speed stick shift is £25,980. At the other end of the spectrum lies the DS 5 Hybrid 4x4 200 in Prestige guise, holding an on-the-road price of £34,890. Other than the manual gearbox, the DS 5 can be equipped with an EAT6 automatic transmission.
To mark the birth of the DS Automobiles brand and facelift of the DS 5, the premium arm of Citroen offers a model dubbed the 1955 Limited Edition as a nod to the original Citroen DS. Priced at £29,600, this model achieves 68.9 UK mpg on the combined cycle thanks to the BlueHDi 150 turbo diesel with start & stop technology and a six-speed manual transmission.
“Right from the start, the DS 5 expressed a new take on the premium segment. A vehicle that is different to the rest, one that can't be placed in any category. For me, it's a mix of refinement and technology. Two key words that take on their full meaning with New DS 5 because the upgrades are in the details of the car, as is frequently the case with premium brands.” declared Eric Apode, the vice president of the DS Automobiles brand’s products & business development division.
