The mid-size truck segment has been withering away for years, its place being taken over by SUVs and crossovers of all kinds but GM apparently won’t let go. They just invested a hefty amount of money in the revitalization of the GMC Canyon and the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado that we had the chance to test.
Most of our time was spent behind the wheel of a Z71 Colorado and we liked it. Yes, we’re going to come out straight up and tell you that we liked it from the beginning. Why? Well, why not?

The looks of the truck are indeed inspired by the worldwide version of the Colorado but the car does fit in every American city you’re going to take it to. Compared to the Canyon, the Colorado is a bit sleeker and more subtle while the GMC looks at you dead on and has a more impressive grille up front. Bottom line, both of them look good but we’re simply loving how the Colorado turned out, feeling completely fresh in a segment that’s dying.

When it comes to picking a Colorado you get the chance to choose between a long bed version and a short version one. The former is 6’2” while the latter is 5’2”. That’s a big thing to keep in mind as it could mean the difference between being able to park your Chevy in a garage or not.

No matter what you go for though, you’ll get plenty of neat tricks in the back to fix your stuff from rolling around. You even get bumper integrated steps in the back that are really helpful when trying to get on-board in the back. To top it all off, the tailgate reclines smoothly instead of crashing like on the Colorado’s rivals.

The GearOn system is also a pretty neat trick that the Chevy’s rivals don’t have right now. It fits in the preexisting cleats and allows you to turn your flatbed into a modular device that lets you carry all sorts of things easily.

Inside, everything seems taken from a Silverado and that’s a good thing. Everything’s simple as it should be on a truck like this and even though the plastic isn’t top notch, it’s durable. There are a couple of USB charging ports going around as well as 12V sockets that could turn out to be useful.

So how’s this truck on the road inside and outside the city? Pretty neat but we won’t go into the full story. You’ll have to read our full 2015 Chevrolet Colorado review to see how it handled itself during its time with us.
