Call it the all-new TT Roadster, the MQB TT or the Mk3 TT – this two-seater convertible has entered production with Audi's famous compact car factory in Gyor, Hungary.
The TT Roadster has become the fourth model built at the factory and much is expected of it. Though the previous two generations, the company sold over half a million TT models, despite the relatively small niche they operate in.

The all-new Roadster was unveiled only recently and displayed during the Paris Motor Show. It shares its platform and three available powertrains with the TT Coupe. The only difference is that the metal roof has been replaced with a folding fabric one and the rear seats are gone.

Under the skin, the 2015 TT Roadster is based on the MQB platform, which makes it lighter than before. To compensate for the lack of a roof, engineers have stiffened the A pillars with steel and ribbed the underbelly of the car in places. But the added weight is only about 20 kilograms (44 lbs).

The launch of the TT Roadster was a major occasion for Audi, as the company CEO attended the event. Here's what he said in an official statement: "The start of production of the new Audi TT Roadster underscores Audi Hungaria’s position in our worldwide production network. The Gyor site makes a significant contribution to our growth and strengthens our international competitiveness.”

New TT Roadsters are already available for order in Germany and many other European markets. Prices start at €37,900 for a model equipped with a 2.0 TFSI turbo and a six-speed manual and go as high as €42,400 for the quattro S tronic version of the same powertrain.

Later on, Audi will also begin selling a 310 horsepower TTS Roadster, capable of 0 to 100 km/h in well under 5 seconds, but costing somewhere in the region of €52,000. Ouch! Unfortunately, American buyers will probably have to wait another year for the new models to arrive.
