To anybody familiar with the brand, the fact that Audi is in love with its history history should come as no surprise. Further demonstrating this, the third generation of TT coupe just received a tribute special edition called Nuvolari Limited, which commemorates of one of their most famous racing drivers ever.
Tazio Nuvolari is a legendary driver, one who has been remembered in the past as well. Before Audi had ever put the A5 into production, the company revealed a large coupe concept that looked like it and was named after the Italian. It was presented in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show and served as a preview for the two-door that came out four years later.
What's interesting is that the Nuvolari special is ready just a month after the Mk3 TT entered production with the factory in Hungary. Let's take a look at the car in more details. Available exclusively in Daytona Gray, the special TT features Nuvolari badging and he S-Line package. 19-inch wheel have also been added, but the optional LED headlights have been left out in favor of the standard xenons.
As far as the powertrain is concerned, the TT Nuvolari Limited is offered with the 2.0 TDI diesel engine pumping out 184 hp and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. 0 to 100 km/h takes a brisk but unimpressive 7.1-seconds on its way to a top-speed of 149 mph.
Only 100 will be made, the first one being expected at the Important Premiere at Gran Premio Nuvolari 2014, in Mantua. Why 100? Because Nuvolari is said to have achieved the fastest lap record 100 times in competitions on the circuit and,in the course of his career took 100 times to the top of winners' podium.
Prices will start at just over 51,000 euros and availability will be strictly limited to Italy. That sounds like a lot of money to pay for what's essentially a 2-liter diesel inside a rebodied A3. However, this retro-inspired coupe is actually very cutting-edge, featuring an all-digital instrument cluster.
