Sepang Test 2, Day 3
The third day of testing at Sepang sees the 9-times World Champion Valentino Rossi at the top of the timesheets, one millisecond under the 2-minute mark. Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa lapped with exactly the same time as Rossi, 1m59s999, but was second because of the number of laps. Rossi did 13 and called it a day, while Pedrosa did 47.
A surprising 3rd placement for Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati saw the Italian 0.068s slower than the two leaders, while Aleix Espargaro finished the third day of Sepang test in a very good 4th position, just over a tenth adrift from Rossi and Pedrosa’s time. Stefan Bradl was the 5th fastest today.

The first day’s leader Avaro Bautista posted the 6th best time, followed by the 2013 runner-up Jorge Lorenzo who seems to be still struggling with the lack of corner grip of his tires. Ducati’s new factory rider Cal Crutchlow also bettered his time and was 7th, with the two Yamaha Tech3 bikes behind him: Bradley Smith and rookie Pol Espargaro.

Suzuki also went up the ladder, as Randy De Puniet ended in the 12th position, while his colleague Nobuatsu Aoki was still last, in the 23rd position. Marc Marquez is recovering from his fractured fibula, but it would have definitely been interesting to have him at Sepang these days, too.

Teams Yamaha, Honda and Ducati are up for a trip in Australia in early March to help Bridgestone test the new tires at Phillip Island. Seeing how unnerved Lorenzo was on Thursday after a frustrating and fruitless effort to cope with the lack of grip while leaned, I wonder how the Bridgestone test will be like. Day 3 timesheets after the jump.
