Korean automaker Kia is recalling certain 2014 Sorento crossover SUV equipped with 2.4-liter engine and front-wheel drive due to a manufacturing issue that could lead to a broken right front axle shaft.
“A fractured front axle may result in a loss of power to the wheels. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, it may roll away. Either condition increases the risk of a crash,” Kia said in a statement, adding that all the other Sorentos are not affected by this recall and that no injuries or accidents related to this issue have been reported so far.
The affected Kia Sorento vehicles were manufactured between January 7, 2013, and March 12, 2013. The recall is expected to being in September, when Kia dealers with replace the front axle shaft assembly free of charge.
Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542 (recall number is SC099) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
