The 2014 Ford Fiesta is not only a looker, it's also a fantastic fuel sipper. A statement made by FoMoCo earlier today says the subcompact car is rated at an amazing 41 mpg highway, but only if you go for the new six-speed PowerShift automatic gearbox with the 1.6-liter engine and the optional Super Fuel Economy package.
Still, that's very impressive for a non EcoBoost car. It's the first non-Hybrid Ford to achieve this figure and the also the first car in the subcompact segment (non-hybrid of course, so Prius c doesn't count), though arguably the Dodge Dart with optional aero package get the same 41 mpg and is classed a compact.
So what about around town? There, the new Fiesta gets 30 mpg for a combined 34 mpg. Not bad, but let's hope Ford has learned from its hybrid mpg debacle and isn't exaggerating its claims any more.
“The 2014 model is shaping up to be a game changer for Fiesta,” said Liz Elser, Ford Fiesta marketing manager. “With the addition of Fiesta ST and the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost, we have fantastic performance and fuel efficiency. But with today’s news, buyers will have a fuel-efficient Fiesta no matter which they choose.”
