The oldest and largest Mercedes-Benz plant in the world is located right near the Daimler AG headquarters in Untertürkheim, Stuttgart, and it has a history of over 100 years.
Entire cars, engines, transmissions, front and rear axles are manufactured there by around 17,000 people who work in various shifts and only rarely get the chance to experience the coolest Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the current lineup, never mind the racing cars.
Hard work usually pays off though, and the employees in the Untertürkheim factory recently got a surprising visit from the seven current Mercedes-Benz DTM drivers and the Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, Toto Wolff.
Naturally, the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterchaft) celebrities didn't come alone, also bringing some of the cars that made them famous.
Christian Vietoris, who was the highest-placed Mercedes-benz driver in last year's season, paraded his AMG C-Coupe around the works premises while being led by the DTM Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG safety car with Bernd Mayländer behind the wheel.
“It was wonderful to sense the enthusiasm of everyone at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim for motor racing and to lay on a thrilling DTM display for them inside their factory gates. I would be delighted to see them turn out in their numbers for the DTM season opener at Hockenheim and cheer on our drivers in the Motodrom and from the Mercedes-Benz grandstand.
Once again, we have put together a strong squad, with an excellent mix of experience and youth. In Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta, we have two former DTM champions. Also taking the wheel of our DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupés will be drivers who have already made a name for themselves in DTM and Formula 1, plus our Mercedes Juniors. I am convinced that our drivers will be giving colleagues and fans alike plenty to shout about this year.” said Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport.
DTM fans should be reminded that the 30th season of the series will start on May 4th, at the Hockenheimring circuit in Baden-Württemberg.
