Samsung Sherco rider Pedrero Garcia put a stop to Honda's series of victories in the 4th Stage of the 2014 Dakar. The Spaniard was only half a minute faster than KTM's Chaleco Lopez, with Marc Coma rouding up the stage's podium.
Cyril Despres was in a lot of trouble about 9 km (5.6 miles) before the end and lost around 40 minutes solving the unexpectedm but daunting problem. The bracket of the Iritrack (satellite location device) broke down and damaged some of the wiring, causing the bike to stall.
Despres worked hard to find a way to "hack" the wiring and ride away. Though in 6th position in the general ranking, he is 41 minuted down from Barreda Bort who finished Stage 4 in the 6th place. Known for his amazing comebacks, Despres is very optimistic and says there's still plenty of time to mend things.
The Stage 4's top 10 was completed wth Esquerre (Speeedbrain), Pain (Yamaha), Barreda Bort and Goncalves for Honda, Jakes (KTM), Duclos (Sherco) and Honda's Daniel Gouet.
General ranking still sees Barreda with a 3 minute lead over Coma, followed by Chaleco Lopez, Duclos and Pain.
We'll be back with the details on Stage 5 as Dakar officials provide them.
