GM is definitely seeing the sunny side this morning, as its latest press statement says the Cruze oil-burner is the most efficient car in America… if you ignore the hybrids.
According to them, the 2.0-liter in the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Turbo Diesel has been designed using European technology but with US and American customers in mind. Equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, the car does an impressive 46 mpg highway (EPA estimate).
The two other headline grabbers are that one a full tank, the car will potentially do a 700 mile journey, or sped 10 hours on the highway without having to stop.
“We harnessed generations of diesel expertise to adapt our world-class global engine for the North American market,” said Gary Altman, chief engineer, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel. “The Cruze Diesel is the best diesel passenger car out there. Chevrolet is redefining the meaning of great fuel economy with this car.”
The good news is that economy doesn't come at the cost of performance. With 148-hp and estimated 258 lb-ft of torque (350 Nm) at its disposal, the Cruze Diesel will do 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds.
