Chevrolet today announced a double whamming for the pickup market, in the form of pricing and EPA estimated economy figures for the 2014 Silverado pickup which made its debut in January.
General Motor's suggested retail prices for the new 2014 Silverado regular cab will start at $24,585, including a $995 destination freight charge, the same base price as the 2013 model. If you want a Silverado Double Cab, that will be $28,610 and the Crew Cab starts at $32,710, both the same as the old models.
“The 2014 Silverado is new from hood to hitch,” said Alan Batey, vice president, U.S. sales and service. “When you combine the innovative features of the new Silverado with base pricing equivalent to 2013 models and standard scheduled maintenance, Silverado becomes a great choice for pickup customers, helping them save money when they buy – and when they drive.”
The other big news today is the EPA rating for the all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, which Chevy expects to power three out of four Silverado 1500s. The engine is rated at 23 mpg highway, 16 mph city and 19 combined for the 2WD model, while figures are only slightly worse for the 4x4: 22/16/18 respectively.
The new V8 engine also delivers 355 hp (265 kW) and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque. It can tow up to 11,500 lbs and has a payload rating of 2,102 lbs. GM says this engine is all-round better than the equivalent Ford EcoBoost 3.5L V6, its main rival.
