Mahindra Scorpio to Launch in March 2011

India’s automobile industry has revived itself from a crippling shadow to scorching growth in less than two years. The lines of Mahindra & Mahindra’s car factory at Nashik, Maharashtra are churning out cars at a non stop pace again. As Indian customers are eager for the new models, the new 2011 Scorpion looks set for its release in March 2011.

Although details about the new model are still unclear, rumors are predicting that the second generation Scorpio will retain a rugged body-on-frame construction like that of the current (first generation) Scorpio. So if the overall construction has not changed, at least we can expect the quality and safety of the SUV will be improved upon while retaining the current generation of efficient four-cylinder diesel engines.

The model will share its platform with the ever-delayed, Mahindra TR20 and TR40 pickups. There have even been speculations that Mahindra is using the using the current Scorpio-based pickups as test platforms to obtain the required EPA approvals to homologate their mHawk 2.2-diesel diesel engine, without revealing it to the public.

The TR pickup line was created as a cheap pickup alternative for the US market. With the launch of the Scorpio just around the corner, the company might not bring the TR series at all, instead opting to create a new variant of the SUV. Until we see them coming off the boat, we can't be sure. As the company cant even keep up with domestic demand and there are no plans for new factories, we don't think that a new Mahindra will be coming to the US too soon.
