When it comes to testing BMWs, few people can do it as good as the Germans. After all, it’s their brand and they know it the best so their tests are the most accurate, if you ask me.
Usually, the guys from Auto Motor und Sport say it all and have no problem criticizing any car, no matter what some people say. That’s why when we saw their test of the brand new X5, we knew we had to share it with you guys.

Depending on what car you’re used to drive, you’ll be in one of two categories: for those that drive anything else than an SUV, hopping into the new X5 will bring about a whole new world you never believed it existed.

You’ll feel like you’re sitting above everyone around you, because the car is rather tall and you feel it immediately. If you’re coming off an older SUV, let’s say the E70 X5, you’ll notice other things, like the evolution of the current model, that has an improved dash and new materials inside.

You really should get the Adaptive Dampers as they will give you the best ride EUR1,800 can buy, with air suspension on the rear axle. The new engines (especially the diesel ones) are smoother and quieter but we’re not sure if that’s because of the better sound isolation materials or because of something else.

On top of that, they are also economical, offering you the best of both worlds, even in the xDrive30d version that is the most frugal and yet does 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 7 seconds.

Bottom line, the new X5 gas grown considerably. It’s now more like a 7 Series higher off the ground that can carry 7 people at a time, combining refinement with interior space and practicality.
