Since the E89 Z4 received a small facelift this year, the car was bound to be tested on all kinds of roads and in all kinds of weather. After all, the Z4 is the last true Roadster of the Bavarians and has to keep up with extremely capable rivals.
The guys from Autos.ca got their hands on an sDrive35i model fitted with anything you could possibly want. The engine is a pure BMW jewel, the 3-liter N54 unit used on the 1M Coupe with a bit less power.
306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque will definitely keep you entertained, especially thanks to the two turbochargers that reduce lag to a minimum. For this model you can also opt for the 7-Speed DCT gearbox, taking fun to a whole new level, as you could probably imagine.
That's all under the hood but outside is where the magic happens. The car looks good, having a slight reminiscence of the 507 Roadster in it thanks to the resemblance with the Z8, a legendary car.
The facelift did almost nothing to its exterior whilst the interior benefits from new optional features and technologies, meant to make sure you have the best experience possible.
Using this car all year round is not such a great idea though. Even with the hardtop, using a Z4 during those pesky winter months is not such a good idea. Not necessarily because of cold (the roof does isolate it very well) but rather because of the practicality of the car.
You won't have too much room in the luggage compartment, even with the roof up and the car only offers space for 2. Furthermore, if you're a bit overweight and wearing a thick coat, you might get claustrophobic with the roof up.
No, this car was meant to be driven with the top down on a sunny day, listening to the symphony played by the 6-cylinders under the bonnet and the tires screeching all the way, thanks to the magnificent transmission.
