Since Jaguar released the new F-Type everyone went mad, concerned about what would happen to the Z4 and its sales that are, purportedly, plummeting already. What could possibly happen? Let's take a look at how auto motor und sport stacked them against each other.
They put together the best Roadsters of the moment, in the shapes of the Porsche Boxster S, Audi TT RS Roadster, BMW Z4 sDrive35is and the Jaguar F-Type V6 S. The specifications might be similar but price tags definitely aren't.
The Audi TT RS Roadster has a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbocharged engine with 340 HP and 450 Nm of torque, hooked up to a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox. Those are almost the same specs as the Z4, that has 50 extra Nm of torque, and a 3-liter engine under the bonnet.
The Porsche Boxster S has a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with 315 HP and 360 Nm of torque and the same 7-speed PDK gearbox as always, whereas the Jaguar comes withe a 380 HP V6 engine that delivers 460 Nm of torque through their custom 8-speed ZF gearbox.
Out of the test drive, the Porsche came out on top. It was that car's brilliant handling, excellent brakes, good comfort and hyperactive boxer engine (with reduced fuel consumption) that brought it the number one spot, in conjunction with a very good price tag.
The Jaguar, unfortunately, came in last. The car is fun and alive but it's just too noisy to be used on a daily basis, even with the exhaust valves closed. The chassis is well balanced and the steering also but it's incredibly high price tag and lack of practicality put it behind the BMW sDrive35is that has all those things and then some over the Jag.
