Audi’s compact sedan is already at the eight generation. It all started with the 80 sedan that went from code name B1 to B4 (one of them was a facelift if memory serves us right). After that, the A4 replaced it in 1994, and we’re currently dealing with the B8 model which was recently refreshed.
That refresh changed up the look of the car a bit, but it was more of a rush job to keep the model launched in 2008 from falling victim to the BMW 3-Series. However, the 3-Series did arrive, revolutionizing the mid-size market with its lighter and larger platform, and now Audi is working on their answer, a brand new A4 model which is scheduled to be revealed towards the end of 2014.

This rendering shows just how good the next best selling Audi will look like in two years time. As you might expect, the wheelbase will be a little bit bigger, but it will also be some 100 kilos lighter, offering a curb weight of about 1,330 kilograms.

The A4 will probably be based on the Volkswagen group MQB modular platform, just like a Golf or Skoda Octavia. It will get a poky new 2-liter engine producing 230 horsepower and the 2-liter TDI will now have 200 PS as well, plus a hefty 450 Nm of torque.

But all that will seem boring compared to what’s going to happen at the back. Instead of using a conventional differential, the A4 quattro will be a hybrid with an electric engine at the back.

Cosmetically, very little is known about the next A4. However, Audi has pledged to stop making all cars look the same, and we though strong character lines were in order.
