The first official day of the 2013 SuperBike season ended well for the Red Devils Roma Aprilia rider Michel Fabrizio: he lapped the fastest track at Phillip Island in 1m31s317, followed very closely by Aprilia factory team rider Eugene Laverty (.392).
Qualifying 1 was held in fair weather without excessive heat and average inland winds and the race was truly balanced, with the top 13 riders within a second. Ducati Alstare star Carlos Checa placed 12th, after a serious crash in the first Free Practice.

He managed to complete only 7 tracks and his time set just in front of another Ducati rider who had recently crashed badly, Max Neukirchner. Qualifying 1 results after the jump.

The 2013 WSBK season kicks off this Sunday (February 24), at Phillip Island in Australia. The circuit is 4.445 km long, with a left pole position, 7 left corners and 5 right ones.
