Awesome WSBK weekend in Portimao, Portugal, as Race 1 was literally loaded with drama and haute-tension battles between BMW Motorrad Goldbet rider Marco Melandri and Aprilia's factory pilot Sylvain Guintoli.
The last lap was incredibly tensed as the Aprilia Frenchman tried his best to pass Melandri. The gap between the two riders was only 0.007 seconds, the 4th smallest margin in Superbike ever. It's the second win for Melandri this season, and a very good save for Aprilia, as their other rider, Eugene Laverty was forced to retire in lap 12 because of technical problem while he was in the lead.

The top 5 in Race 1 was completed by Kawasaki's Tom Sykes, Suzuki rider Leon Camier and Sykes' team mate Loris Baz. The first race was also the best position Camier and Fixi Crescent Suzuki team had this year.

If only all motorcycle road racing would be just an exciting, we'd be up for an awesome remaining half of the year...
