2013 WSBK: Camier and Suzuki Still the Fastest at Phillip Island

Leon Camier (check his scraped leathers) had the best time during the first day of official WSBK training at Phillip Island. The day was a bit better for most riders, even though German pilot Max Neukirchner had a very bad fall and had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter.
The hot weather favored the Pirelli tires and we saw fewer accidents. Riders who skipped the decond private test day have returned to the track: Jules Cluzel and Tom Sykes are back aboard their bikes are shaking the last week's wipeout off.

Ayrton Badovini was not recovered after his serious crash which torched his Ducati last week so he decided to skip the day. Carlos Checa, his team mate and hospital neighbor for a brief period of time, solved his blocked intestine problem and raced hard, ending the first day in 6th position.

The Aprilia RSV4 machines had a good day, Fabrizio and Laverty ending up in 3rd and 4th, just behind Leon Haslam and his Pata Honda bike. Good for Melandri, too, as he managed to ride his BMW a tad faster than Checa.
