The brand new Scion FR-S sports coupe developed by Subaru and Toyota has begun arriving at dealerships in the US this month. Supply is tight and demand is impressive, but why are people buying a 200 horsepower car for $24,200?
Part of it has to do with the heritage if we’re to believe Toyota’s press photos, released just recently to increase the coverage of the FR-S. But we don’t really believe them.
The actual reason is that there hasn’t been any new sports coupe launched in a while. And you can see Subaru poured their heart and soul into making this a pure car. There are no big V8s under-hood, and keeping the weight down has been religiously observed.
The FR-S is available at 995 dealers in NA with a 2-year service boost from Scion.
"Scion's goal was to create an affordable sports car that true driving enthusiasts could enjoy," said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president.
