Land Rover India has introduced a more frugal version of the 2013 Range Rover SUV, the turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6. The engine proves 258bhp to its future Indian customers, but more importantly develops 600 Nm of torque.
When it comes to performance the V6 diesel combined with standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed gearbox take the British-built SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
Fuel economy isn't bad either: 8.4 liters per 100 km claimed in the city and 6.9 on the highway. However, actually achieving that on a real Indian road will be a challenge.
The 2013 Range Rover is a fourth-generation SUV developed by Land Rover around a new aluminum chassis that's bigger but lighter. At the same time separate chassis construction has been ditched in favor of a monocoque one.
Land Rover India should launch the new Range Rover Sport in India before the end of the year, so you're looking for a sport diesel SUV, you might want to wait.
