The first Free practice at the historic Bugatti circuit in Le Mans, France, is over, with Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa in the lead, followed by reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo, who was only 40 hundredths of a second slower.
The other Yamaha works rider Valentino Rossi finished FP1 third, with a .293 gap from Pedrosa. Great initial session for two Ducati machines, as Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso came in 4th and 5th positions, followed by Cal Crutchlow and Marc Marquez.

Ben Spies replacement Michele Pirro finished FP1 in position 13. The fastest CRT machine in FP1 was Alvaro Bautista's Gresini Honda.

Rossi missed a turn and ran off the track: he was still on asphalt, so things were alright but Bradley Smith had a moment as he went very wide through a turn, and was forced to cross a large gravel patch. Even more, at the edge of the patch, Smith also has to jump his bike to get on solid ground, but he remained upright.

No crashes so far, and that's good. The weather for the race time is yet unstable and we might just get the second wet race at Le Mans in a row.
