The fast pace at which new cars are revealed is finally taking its toll. Ford’s brand new 2013 Fusion sedan was basically the biggest newcomer in its segment when it bowed at the Detroit Auto Show a little more than a month ago. But some Ford dealers are puzzled as to why they unveiled a revolutionary car that will only be available this fall. And it’s even worse in Europe, where the replacement for the current Mondeo is a year away.
“I’m kind of worried about it. I’ve got quite a few of the ’12s. That car’s not going to be here until September,” Larry Taylor, a Ford dealer in Ohio, told Automotive News. “As a member of the dealer council, I warned them about pre-advertising and promoting things we don’t have. Ford has had a problem building up things that aren’t on sale yet.”
2011 was a record year for the Fusion, as 248,067 units have been sold. But the new one is such a huge leap in terms of design and efficiency that customers are going to be hard to convince into buying the 2012 model.
