Ford has unveiled the 2013 Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup car at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Media Tour, and the Blue Oval says they wanted to bring back brand identity back to the sport by making a cup car that’s as close to what you’ll drive as possible.
The car was designed by Ford Design Center staff, led by Garen Nicoghosian, and Ford aerodynamicist Bernie Marcus. Nicoghosian had three main targets for this car: the overall proportions of the racecar had to be similar to those of production Fusion, the side had to offer brand cues, while the front end is identical has the same grille your Ford will have.

”We wanted Fusion to be the car that helped return ‘stock car’ to NASCAR.” stated Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “I think fans, when they see the car, are just going to smile and cheer. It is going to reengage them with the sport and make the sport better because there is just something natural about seeing race cars that look like cars in their driveways.”
