One of our readers pointed out some of the problems the new BMW R1200GS has had in Brazil. While we're delving deeper into the matter, Mr. R Faria of Belo Horizonte has provided us with some info from the local market and feedback from 1200GS customers, pointing at Reclame Aqui, a local website dedicated to customer safety (in Portuguese).
Reading the complaints on the aforementioned website, we cannot help think back at all the steering head shake issue the new liquid-cooled BMW was reported to develop when getting into the 60 mph (100 km/h) range.
At the same time, we still haven't found official (and needed) declarations concerning the death of Kevin Ash, a death which is still kind of shrouded in mystery.
The head shake issue was reported in more than isolated cases and It looks like the 25.5-degree rake might be one of the causes which led to BMW thinking about a steering damper for the 2014 machine.
According to the same sources, several crashes involving the new 1200GS have been recorded in the states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, with one of the riders allegedly shaking violently aboard his bike prior to crashing. Several other complaints targeted the loss of oil because the glass window
