The funky-fresh model in Kia’s product range, the Soul has been revised for the 2012 model year, the company’s North American division announced today, as it released photos and info on the subject. It looks like the 2012 Kia Soul brings updated looks, more power, improved fuel economy, new technologies and features.

Specifically, the 2012 Soul now delivers 164 horsepower (up 22 hp) with a new 2.0-liter engine, and 138 horsepower (up 16 hp) with a 1.6-liter engine that adds GDI technology. Both these units are now available with new efficient six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

Fuel economy was also improved by up to ten percent. Later this model year, Soul will offer the fuel saving Idle Stop and Go (ISG) technology and low-rolling-resistance tires.

As for the vehicle’s exterior design, this has been updated with subtle changes to front and rear fascias to project a wider stance, while new headlamps, taillights, side mirrors and wheels project a more modern look. The Soul! variant comes with exclusive projector headlamps with front LED accents and LED taillights complemented by new 18-inch alloy wheels.

In addition, the Soul! also offers features like standard UVO powered by Microsoft voice-activated infotainment system (expected to be available this fall) with a 4.3-inch color touch screen and rear camera display matched to an all-new 350-watt seven-speaker Infinity audio system (also optional on Soul+). Navigation with SiriusXM traffic also will be available.

Pricing for the 2012 Kia Soul starts at $13,900, and at $15,700 for the Soul A/T. The Soul sport model is no longer offered.
