2012 Infiniti M Hybrid Official EPA Figures Announced

The North American division of Infiniti today announced official EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) fuel economy figures for its first production hybrid performance luxury sedan, namely the all-new 2012 Infiniti M35h. The estimated fuel economy is 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, with combined fuel economy rated at 29 mpg.

“The Infiniti M Hybrid is the first V6 true luxury performance "driver's" hybrid, and the only such vehicle to offer more than 350 horsepower and 32 mpg fuel economy,” the company brags in a statement for the press.

The Infiniti M35h is equipped with the all-new Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid system, an advanced one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid design that uses precise, high-speed motor control technology enabled by the powerful Lithium-ion battery, allowing power to be delivered directly to the vehicle's 7-speed automatic transmission.

The Infiniti M Hybrid's also benefits from the use of Infiniti's 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine, which paired with the 50 kW electric motor, provides a hybrid system net power of 360 horsepower.

The new Infiniti M35h is also the first hybrid in the world to come with Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP) safety feature as standard, which uses a range of distinctive sounds to help ensure the safety of other road users.

Prices for the Infiniti M35h, which will be offered in either GT or GT Premium grades, are due to be announced closer to the Geneva Auto Show this March. The vehicle goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in spring 2011.
