The E-Class has pretty much always been the Mercedes-Benz workhorse when it comes to sales. Seen by many as the defining German executive sedan, it also has one of the largest engine lineups in the three-pointed star range.
From two-liter four-pots to 5.5-liter V8s, with most of them available in rear or all-wheel drive, the E-Class engine range pretty much has all niches covered.

People who desire a go-fast version are offered the E 63 AMG, which now comes in four different versions, for example. For some, even that's not enough, and recent years have shown carmakers that there's a sub-niche for every niche out there.

In our case, one of the go-fast sub-niches in the E-Class lineup might very well be the E 550 (500 in Europe) in 4Matic all-wheel drive guise. Don't believe us? Just check out an acceleration video of the pre-facelift E 550 W212 4Matic with four passengers on board.
