As the start of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) approaches, American manufacturer Chrysler is more and more active, presenting, one after another, new versions of trims of the existing models.

On the Avenger front, Chrysler decided it's time to introduce a new generation of the R/T variant of the model, based on the model which was presented earlier this year. The R/T will come with all the tweaks and upgrades that have made up the two consonants for some time now.

Under the hood, the R/T will hide a 3.6l Pentastar V6 engine, which has been tweaked into developing 283 horsepower. Paired to a six-speed automatic, the model provides a fuel economy figure of 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

Mechanically, the R/T makes use of stiffened suspension to handle the strain of the extra horses. Roll stiffness has been increased by 18 percent, while spring rates by 17 percent in the front and more than 12 percent in the rear.

The unique features that make up the R/T extend from the 18-inch aluminum wheels to the “war paint” R/T decal on the front quarter panel. At the interior, several unique touches, like the leather-trimmed bolsters or the Boston Acoustic sound system, make up an image of a very comfortable aggressive car.

“The Avenger R/T makes driving a mid-size car a really fun, engaging experience,” said Ralph Gilles, Dodge CEO. “The Avenger R/T offers performance design cues both inside and out, as well as unique handling characteristics and a sport-tuned suspension. It’s a vehicle that is ready to earn its stripes as part of the Dodge performance family of vehicles.”
