BMW has introduced a new batch of engines for the 1-Series five-door model that was shown last year. these include two diesels and a more powerful gasoline unit. BMW also introduced the dedicated M Sport package that lowers the suspension by 10 mm and also comes with 17- or 18-inch wheels besides the obvious body kit.
Starting with the 125i, this gets a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline with a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection. It brings 218 hp to the game and 310Nm (228 lb-ft) between 1,350 and 4,800 rpm. This offers a very hothatch-like 6.4 second standard sprint time and a top speed of 152mph (243 km/h).
The most powerful diesel introduced is the 125d, which has the same hp output but a lot more torque - 450Nm (331.9 lb-ft). Top speed is a respectable 149 mph (240 km/h), and the standard sprint takes 6.5 seconds.
The other new diesel is the 116d EfficientDynamics with 1.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel, providing 116 hp. Its party trick is that it can do 100 km on just 3.8 liters of fuel.
